Collingwood Day IV

BY ZEP

Why are 15 year olds introduced to the mass marketing machines of corporate-controlled music?

They just fuck everything up.

Like Justin Bieber. What is up with this kid?

I mean, yeah, he seems to have joined the numerous legions of Disney children who invade the confines of my mind each day.

However,

This kid is a whole new breed. He's not a Disney kid: He was actually signed by Usher, instead of being presented to the record labels as money on a platter. Why is it that actual, talented artists can legitimately work hard for years without any success, but these kids can have fame, fortune and success handed to them on a plate?

The music industry is a tried and true joke. Gone is the necessity of talent that made the legends of old.

It's been replaced by business moguls who will shape you into what they believe is "talented".

Gone is the concept of artistry and creativity.

They've been replaced with repetitive chord progressions, and empty lyrics that are devoid of emotion.

It's all a fucking hoax.

Will I ever experience "real" music again, or will I be relegated to having my cortex replay the Jonas Brothers and Miley and Justin fucking Bieber?

Hoping for a brighter musical future...

Collingwood Day III

BY ZEP

Kinda sad

When the atmosphere of your "vacation"

is no different than the atmosphere of your home.

I came here to relax

to unwind

to find some release.

And instead I find the same tension and anger that I have to endure at home.

I have to sit here and feel embarassed in front of extended family as my immediate family quarrels over a board game like five-year-old children.

They can't ever relax or unwind.

Their release is venting anger at one another, shouting and accusing and pointing fingers.

It's quite irritating....can't you all just be happy for once in your lives?

Collingwood Day II

BY ZEP

If there's one thing I appreciate about this place, it's the scenery.

Blue mountain is a magnificent sight, along with the vibrant green landscapes that rise and fall along the countryside. It feels like I'm looking at a really complex painting sometimes.

I'm pretty excited to visit the scenic caves up on the escarpment. It's a forest trail that's peppered with extavagant rock formations...it makes for an epic nature walk and pretty awesome pictures.

I've also decided to be more positive about this place.

I'm here for another week, and I won't do myself any good by complaining about how little there is to do. I have to make the most of what I have, and pulling the negative into my brain won't do much good.

Besides, I played football today for the first time in 7 years and had fun. And I suck at football!

Internet in Collingwood?!

BY ZEP

2 hour drive.

1 less than expected.

Thankful for technology, even if my parents aren't thrilled I possess it.

Feels awesome to own things and know that no one can control your use of it.

Thrilling perhaps?

I hate being told what to do in any case.

The house is....

less than what I expected it to be? Too cottagy, obviously not meant for ten people....five of which share one room.

backyard is gigantic though.

Possible visit to scenic caves tomorrow...pictures are a must.

Siblings are daring me to pass through Fat Man's Misery....but claustrophobia will more than likely overcome my soul.

The internet is the joyous thing for the record.

Other pre-Collingwood thoughts

BY ZEP

Surprisingly, I'm going to miss Mississauga.

Why?

'Cause it's comfortable. Here, I have friends, work, things to do [and you]. In Collingwood, there's everything Mississauga has except the things mentioned above.

I felt the same way last time I went. I was "cut off" from everything. I had no phone, no computer, no technology. The only thing on my mind while I was there was how much I wanted to go home. I couldn't sleep some nights 'cause I would think of the things and people I missed.

It's because I'm accustomed to what I have. Conditioned to be comfortable, one might say. When I'm used to being on the internet, or hanging out with my friends, or seeing a special person often, I get comfortable, and I miss these things more when they're "ripped away", so to speak.

This time, I have a better connection to the "outside world". I have my phone, mobile calling cards, and my computer in the slight chance there's internet. However, I'm going to try to enjoy myself, going to try to think and write and create. I'll probably lie awake some nights thinking of what [and who] I miss, but I won't let that consume me as it did last time.

Time to pack up the junk.

Pre-Collingwood thoughts

BY ZEP

I am running on eggs, an english muffin and little sleep due to two very noisy dogs....

I'm also leaving for a "vacation" tomorrow to Collingwood...so CMC will either see an enormous lack of posts due to no internet, or extreme amounts of posts "documenting" my time up in better-housed suburbia.

Internet or no internet, I plan on taking the time to do a lot of writing when I'm not "relaxing" (It's difficult to relax around my immediate family).

I feel as if this time off should be refreshing, but considering I don't get along very well with my parents, I don't know how "refreshing" it will actually turn out to be. So my computer and my phone (equipped with long-distance calling cards) will suffice if things get too hectic.

As a side note, the number one reason I'm looking forward to this vacation:

Beaver Tails.

Seriously. Best invention ever.

Peace out for now

Feedback (not the Janet Jackson song)

BY ZEP

I've been filtering through my posts, and it seems that there have been two separate categories that they are divided into...at least in my opinion.

1) Posts where I vent my anger, frustration and opinions...where I "tell it like it is"

2) Posts that are slightly more metaphorical, in the form of song lyrics, poems, short stories or other "creative tendencies"

I want to know what you, the readers, think. I know there are some of you out there somewhere!

Which of these "types" do you like? Do you like both? None? Do you hate this blog? Do you have a semblance of affection towards it?

We need your feedback!
